The James B. Beam Distilling Co. on Thursday announced that it’s expanding its Old Grand-Dad lineup with the launch of Old Grand-Dad 114 Single Barrel 7-Year, a new annual release built around the brand’s high-rye bourbon profile.

The new expression marks the first single barrel release under the Old Grand-Dad 114 label, a longtime bartender favorite known for its higher proof and spicy character. This is the latest extension of the Old Grand-Dad line after last year’s 7-year-old Bottled-In-Bond release. You can find our review of that bourbon here.

First introduced in 1882, Old Grand-Dad has maintained a loyal following among bourbon drinkers and cocktail bartenders alike. The new release aims to build on that reputation with individually selected barrels bottled at 114 proof in staying with the traditional Old Grand-Dad 114, a popular bar staple.

According to the company, the bourbon features deep copper coloring alongside aromas of caramel and vanilla. Tasting notes include sweet toffee and charred oak, followed by a warm, velvety finish.

Like the standard Old Grand-Dad 114 expression, the new release uses the brand’s signature high-rye mashbill, though the single barrel format is expected to create more variation from bottle to bottle.

Old Grand-Dad 114 Single Barrel 7-Year will release annually and has a suggested retail price of $49.99.

The launch adds another higher-proof offering to Beam’s broader bourbon portfolio as demand for age-stated and single barrel releases continues to remain strong among whiskey enthusiasts.
