‘We Believe We Have a Hit’: Castle & Key Releases 2nd Whiskey in Series Shining a Light on Black Contributions to the Distilling Industry

On Monday, Castle & Key Distillery announced the release of its latest whiskey — The Untold Story of Kentucky Whiskey, Chapter 2 — in partnership with the Kentucky Black Bourbon Guild.
This is the second of the distillery’s annual whiskey release in which 100 percent of sales are donated to scholarship funds to support diversity and inclusion within the distilling industry. Bottles will be available for sale at the distillery beginning Nov. 19.
“We are ecstatic about reaching yet another milestone in honoring our ancestral contribution to this progressive industry,”Rob Beatty, founder and president of the Kentucky Black Bourbon Guild, said in a news release. “Our KBBG certified Bourbon stewards were excited about working with Castle & Key in carefully selecting the right barrels for this project. And we believe we have a hit. This Chapter 2 release is a unique, wheated and traditional bourbon blend with notes of phyllo dough, orange peel, and toffee. We are all excited to accommodate your sipping glasses with a special product you won’t find anywhere but here!”
Bottled at 101.5 proof, the whiskey will retail for a suggested price of $174.99. Only 426 bottles were produced. The whiskey comprises 50% traditional bourbon and 50% wheated bourbon.
The Untold Story of Kentucky Whiskey series honors African American contributions to the distilling industry that often go unrecognized and undiscussed. Each year’s bottle features a “chapter” telling part of the story. Chapter 1 of The Untold Story was written by Dr. Erin Wiggins Gilliam, of Kentucky State University and the KBBG.
For the second year, the bottle design and labels were donated by packaging and design firm Stranger & Stranger and commercial printing business Eurostampa.
