‘Exploring The Frontiers Of Rum’s Natural Flavor’: Renegade Rum Brings Four Flagship Expressions to the US

Grenada-based, Renegade Rum has announced the launch of four new flagship expressions of aged and unaged rums in the US. The range is comprised of three blends or cuvées and terroir-focused micro origin. 

Mark Reynier of Waterford Whiskey in Ireland is the creative mind behind Renegade. The brand sought to explore the depths of sugarcane’s terroir, cane varietals, and distillation on the Caribbean island of Grenada. Since launching last summer the rum producers have made an impact with its pre-cask editions of cane spirits the focus on the flavor of sugarcane grown in different areas and soils on the island. 

The new releases include two aged offerings – All-Island Cuvée: Nova and Single Farm Cuvée: Dunfermline. Unlike previous expressions released in the US, these rums have matured in French and American Oak barrels in a Caribbean climate. Renegade has also produced its first unaged Pre-Cask assemblage dubbed Cuvée Aura which is made from sugarcane from every cane growing area in Grenada.

Cuvée is typically a term used in wine to represent a blend made from different grape varieties. The blends can be particular to a region or even a particular farm. Taking inspiration from this long-held winemaking tradition, Renegade uses this term to showcase the varietals and terroir with a blend made from the different growing areas around the island. 

Alongside the launch of the flagship cuvées will be the introduction of MicrOrgin: Hope. This rum represents the ultimate precision of the distillery’s approach. It is rum from a single field of cane, grown on Hope Farm on the island’s eastern Atlantic coast. Micro origin focuses on the flavor derived not just from an island, or a farm, but a single field within the Renegade building block. MicrOrgin: Hope is an aged expression that is meant to showcase the intense commitment to Renegade’s passion for terroir and flavor specificity. 

Renegade Rum CEO Mark Reynier said, “We were delighted with the initial awards and accolades for our Pre-Cask bottlings, but now it is time to evolve our concept even further. We are therefore excited to present our full core range – beginning at a rum made from just a single field of cane – a single building block – all the way through to beguiling cuvées using cane showcasing Grenada’s diverse array of terroirs.

Every expression of Renegade Rum is free from any added color and sugar. The rums are not chill-filtered, to present it in the most unadulterated form. Each bottle comes with its unique CaneCode, offering the drinker transparency and traceability, not commonly seen with rum production. 

The Flagship Range

The new flagship range of one unaged and three aged rums to be released in the United States are as follows:

All-Island Cuvée: Nova is the ultimate bottle of Renegade Rum, the distillery’s greatest assemblage of component terroirs, multiple Single Farm Origins, cane varieties, distillation methods and wood types, then creatively brought together for ultimate complexity. Bottled at 46% ABV, it is harmonious, intense and profound.

*Distillation Type: Pot and Column Stills

Single Farm Cuvée: Dunfermline drills down further into provenance. Taking its inspiration from the Grand Vins of Bordeaux, it is an assemblage of individually distilled component terroirs from Dunfermline farm. Bottled at 50% ABV it is the precision of place, the taste of provenance.

MicrOrgin: Hope represents the ultimate precision of the distillery’s approach. It is rum from a single field of cane, grown on Hope Farm on the island’s wild, Atlantic-swept East, and bottled at 55% ABV.

*Distillation Type: Pot and Retorts Stills

In addition to its aged rums comes its first unaged Pre-Cask assemblage, Cuvée: Aura, which presents the distillery’s pure spirit prior to maturation and showcases its vibrantly fresh cane rum flavors. This unaged rum expression is bottled at 46% ABV.

The Renegade Rum flagship range will be available in select markets and retailers in the US this December.
