Country music star Eric Church’s Whiskey JYPSI, one of the consistently best and most creative brands in the celebrity spirits space, continues to take an unconventional approach with Legacy Batch 003, a high-proof blend that pulls from multiple whiskey categories and origins.

Known as “The Declaration,” the release is positioned as a tribute to the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence. The concept ties into the whiskey itself, which aims to recreate a Colonial-era Maryland-style rye mash bill using fully matured components sourced from different regions.

The blend is made up of 60% Indiana rye finished in apple brandy barrels from George Washington’s Mount Vernon Distillery; 30% 20- to 25-year-old Canadian corn whisky re-barreled in new American oak for 2.5 years; and 10% 8-year-old Virginia single malt. It’s an unusual combination on paper, crossing categories that are rarely blended together in this way.

Bottled at 115.74 proof, the whiskey drinks with intensity but also shows restraint. There is a clear throughline of dark fruit, spice and oak, with flashes of sweetness that keep it from leaning too far in any one direction. The higher proof brings structure and weight, and the blend is complex but never disjointed.

It’s not a traditional bourbon or rye, and it doesn’t pretend to be. The whiskey retails for around $199.99, placing it firmly in the premium tier. It’s a limited release aimed at collectors and drinkers interested in experimental blending.
