  • A very solid, truly well balanced release. Oak, sweetness and moderate spice oscillate evenly. Michter’s Sour Mash is very good in barrel-proof form — no surprise, but I’m happy it’s here.

  • Nose:

Gentle, pleasant nose full of cinnamon, gingerbread, tiramisu, cherries, blueberries, clove, butterscotch, cornbread and soft oak.

  • Taste:

Silky mouthfeel. The palate brings a good bit of heat and excellent balance between sweet, spice and oak: seared oak, cinnamon, nutmeg, brandied cherries, cocoa powder, almonds, tobacco, clove.

  • Finish:

The finish opens with barrel char, coffee grounds, Clove, sassafras and brown sugar, then moves into a profile of graham cracker and cherry pie.

  • Overall:

A very solid, truly well balanced release. Oak, sweetness and moderate spice oscillate evenly. Michter’s Sour Mash is very good in barrel-proof form — no surprise, but I’m happy it’s here.
