Rieger Straight Rye Whiskey is produced by J. Rieger & Co. in Kansas City, Missouri. Made from a mash bill of 96% rye and 4% malted barley, the whiskey undergoes sweet mash fermentation. This means it was started from scratch, as opposed to the more common sour mash technique, which consists of adding "backset," or a portion of the previous batch's fermented mash, to the new batch. After fermentation, it is distilled in both pot and column stills. It is aged a minimum of four years in 53-gallon American oak barrels and bottled without chill filtration at 45% ABV. Rieger sells it for $40.99.

Lovely nose full of pepper, clove, cardamom, ginger and cream cheese frosting.
Silky smooth mouthfeel. Really excellent, flavorful palate. Lots of Candied ginger, clove, sassafras and cardamom are accented by caramel and white cake frosting.
The finish opens big and spicy with powdered ginger and more clove, and then transitions into leather, a touch of yuzu and butterscotch.
A genuinely awesome rye whiskey packed with flavor. It superbly balances sweetness and spice. It drinks great neat and would be phenomenal to build cocktails around.
