The nose is distinctive and creamy, full of cheesecake, heavy whipping cream, browned butter and leather.
The mouthfeel is nicely mouth-coating, dry and tannic, with a good bit of heat. The palate is pretty dark and musky, opening with toasted oak and then introducing black cherries, apple, grape jam and leather and tannin on the back of the tongue. That interesting cheesecake note from the nose is here on the palate, as well.
Medium in length. Toasted oak, blackberries and red grape skin open the finish, followed by plum, apricot and orange zest. The finish concludes with a touch of burnt marshmallow and a big hit of oak.
A perfectly aged, really distinctive and enjoyable bourbon. The dark-fruit profile is so prominent that I might have considered it was aged in Armagnac or Cognac casks had I tasted blind.
