‘Drunk Monkey’ Goes Viral for Napping in Liquor Store After Allegedly Drinking Booze

A monkey reportedly drank alcohol inside a wine shop in Ranchi, India, before falling asleep on the premises and eventually being removed by a rescue team.

The unusual incident reportedly happened Friday at a wine shop in Block Chowk in Ormanjhi, an area of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. A video showing the monkey inside the shop has since circulated on social media.

According to India.com, the monkey entered the shop and initially startled people inside. When the shopkeeper attempted to drive it away, the monkey reportedly bit him, prompting him to back off.

The monkey then allegedly drank from a liquor bottle inside the store before lying down and falling asleep.

Word of the unusual scene quickly spread, drawing a crowd to the shop. People gathered to watch the monkey as it remained inside the store, taking a snooze on boxes of liquor bottles.

A rescue team was eventually called to the scene and worked to remove the animal safely. The team reportedly transported the monkey away from the shop without harming it.

The incident has since attracted attention online, with videos and photos of the monkey inside the shop circulating on social media.

It is unclear from the available reports how much alcohol the monkey consumed or whether its sleep was directly caused by drinking alcohol.

The incident is the latest in a string of unusual monkey videos to attract attention online. India.com previously reported on a monkey receiving a massage at a barber shop, another clip that quickly went viral on social media:
