Old Overholt Revamps 11-Year Rye Whiskey With Cask Strength Bottling

On Tuesday, Beam Suntory-owned whiskey brand Old Overholt rolled out a cask-strength edition of its 11-year expression.

Bottled at 107.4 proof, the liquid was distilled and barreled in the autumn of 2012 before being laid down in four warehouses in Clermont, Kentucky. Like most Old Overholt releases, it boasts a high-rye mashbill, though the exact breakdown is undisclosed.

The end result is said to pair aromas of vanilla and tobacco flavors of allspice, caramel and charred oak. It’s slated to roll out nationwide this month at a suggested retail price of $99.99.

The last iteration of Overholt’s 11-year-old whiskey was released in 2020. It marked something of a transition for the brand. At the time, Beam Suntory had decided to give the two-century-old name — purportedly the oldest continually maintained whiskey in America — a refresh, opting for non-chill filtration and a new packaging style. The transition was commemorated with a 4-year-old 114 proof whiskey and an 11-year expression bottled at 92.6 proof.

We’re taking the trusted, quality whiskey that we all know and love and making mindful improvements to help it standout even more as a cornerstone of American Rye.”

In 2023, the brand unveiled a cask-strength 10-year rye bottled at 121 proof. This year’s release acts as the next step up so far as the age statement.
