Deanston’s First Virgin Oak-Aged Scotch Whisky Hosts ‘Bold and Complex Flavors’

Deanston

On Nov. 16, Deanston Distillery announced the release of its inaugural batch of Deanston Virgin Oak Cask Strength, a scotch whisky bottled at 58.5% ABV.

“I’m thrilled to share our first-ever batch of Virgin Oak cask strength with the world,” said Master Blender Julieann Fernandez in a news release from the brand. “This release was inspired by the time I spent in the iconic former weaving sheds at Deanston, the perfect place for maturing whisky, nosing, and tasting our Virgin Oak spirit directly from the cask.”

The whisky hosts a suggested retail price of $97.99 and is available for purchase in the U.S. from specialized retailers and ReserveBar.

Deanston claims its latest release was filled in American ex-bourbon barrels and then finished in American virgin oak barrels for one year from the Kelvin Cooperage in Kentucky. The scotch whisky hosts no added color and was non-chill filtered.

“As always with Deanston drams, the waxy character is present and coats the mouth beautifully. At cask strength, we can showcase bold and complex flavors of Virgin Oak that are perfectly balanced,” Fernandez concluded.

Deanston released a 15-year-old scotch whisky finished in tequila barrels in October. The expression was finished in casks that held tequila from the highlands of Jalisco in Mexico, according to the brand.
