Little less than a year after actor Willem Dafoe was tapped for a Laphroaig whisky campaign, the duo reteamed for a limited-edition bottling. This is a peated, 14-year-old single malt aged in bourbon barrels, finished in Oloroso sherry casks for nine months and bottled at 53.7% ABV. It hit the market in June 2026 at a suggested retail price of $170, and — in an unusual twist — was unveiled to consumers without official tasting notes. Laphroaig is leaning hard into the mystique with this one, so let's see what we find inside.

  • The cask finish is something that always works well for this distillery, imbuing the liquid with syrupy notes of dried fruit, ripe cherry, flamed orange peel, vanilla custard, and some cinnamon, cardamom, and black pepper.

  • Punchy flavors of dark chocolate shavings, coffee grounds, beef jerky, raspberry, cherries jubilee, dried fig and gentian root. Much like the nose, it runs dry and salty and the smoke takes a big swing at the palate with plenty of campfire smoke.

  • Nose:

A bruising, peat-forward nose, leading with hints seaweed, myrrh and chipotle peppers. Flashes of blackberry, red currants and candied orange peel speak to Oloroso influence, but they shrink into the background of the overwhelming salt and barbeque vibe.

  • Taste:

Punchy flavors of dark chocolate shavings, coffee grounds, beef jerky, raspberry, cherries jubilee, dried fig and gentian root. Lots going on here, and it takes a few sips to parse everything out. Much like the nose, it runs dry and salty, and the smoke takes a big swing at the palate with plenty of ashy, campfire goodness.

  • Finish:

Walnuts, cigar smoke and prosciutto; reminds me of a Father's Day charcuterie board.

  • Overall:

A treat for anyone who enjoys their whisky on the totally peated and unabashedly savory side. Much like the man himself, this delivers an intense performance, but don't be afraid to open it up with a few drops of water in the glass.

  • Score:

    90
