This is one of five batches launched on April 21, 2026, by Jack Daniel's as part of its 2026 Special Release Small Batch Rye collection, a limited series highlighting high-proof rye whiskey produced at the Lynchburg distillery and aged in various warehouses. This expression is bottled at 142.7 proof (71.35% ABV), making it the lowest proof among the five batches, which range from 142.7 to 146.1 proof.
This rye whiskey was distilled and entered into barrels on July 11, 2017, and aged for more than eight years before being bottled on April 1, 2026. Like other releases in the series, it is drawn from barrels selected to represent specific warehouse locations and maturation conditions. This particular one was aged in a rickhouse on Boiler Hill.
The Special Release Small Batch Rye line builds on Jack Daniel’s ongoing expansion into rye whiskey, which began with the brand’s typical rye mashbill of 70% rye, 18% corn and 12% malted barley, which was introduced in 2017.
As part of a small batch format, the whiskey is composed of a limited number of barrels rather than a single barrel or large-scale blend. The release is intended to showcase variation across batches while maintaining consistency within each bottling. Each bottle was released exclusively at Jack Daniel's' White Rabbit on April 21 at a suggested retail price of $65 per 375-milliliter bottle.

Big, beautiful nose filled with spice but also delicate sweetness. Gingerbread, cinnamon, blackberries and cherries, and a lovely soft sweetness: marzipan, marshmallow fluff. With a little air, you get more of a milk chocolate, crème brûlée and banana vibe.
Huge spice on the palate: Lovely thick viscosity and, honestly, not that much heat for a hazmat. I think I’d peg this around 128 proof if tasting blind. Cinnamon Toast Crunch, clove, sassafras, anise, brown sugar, blackberry, banana pudding. Oak builds on the mid-palate with some drying tannin. There’s also a smoky note that reminds me of the smell of a just-blown-out candle.
The finish opens with clove and cinnamon, then moves into a dry, oaky profile with a light brûléed banana note.
Utterly delicious rye. It’s drinkable despite its proof and just builds this incredible profile of dark cherry, oak and spice. Perhaps the best whiskey I’ve tasted this year.
