Released in February 2024, this is the second batch of Jack Daniel's 12 Year Old, the highest-age-stated product from the modern era of the historic Tennessee whiskey brand. Distilled from a mashill of 80% corn, 12% malted barley and 8% rye, this whiskey was aged 12 years after undergoing Jack Daniel's' classic charcoal mellowing process. Jack Daniel's has in recent years begun making whiskeys that are older, proofed higher and in some cases feature cask finishes. In short, Jack is now making whiskey for whiskey enthusiasts rather than focusing solely on the masses with affordable, simplistic expressions like Old No. 7 and flavored products. We've loved this strategic shift, and the products coming out of Lynchburg have consistently impressed.
Rather tannic on the back end, but not without some level of noirish appeal. Less spice-laden than Batch 1, but still a big departure from the JD formula.
Fans will be relieved to learn Batch 2 is also delicious whiskey, accessible to nearly every spirit drinker and satisfying to even the pickiest among us. It’s a bottling that helps solidify a position among hotly anticipated yearly releases.
Rich flavors help define the latest Jack Daniels 12 Year Tennessee Whiskey, which will have fans of the brand wishing that this was a year-round release.
Jack Daniel’s is proving that it has an eye for both creativity and consistency. This release is super enjoyable, satisfying and complex, and I like knowing we’ll most likely see new batches again next year!
