Both oak varieties were naturally seasoned and air-dried for three years before receiving a custom toast and char. Bottled at 54% ABV, or 108 proof, the bourbon carries a suggested retail price of $120.

  • The flavor profile is in tune with traditional bourbon–plenty of melted brown sugar, cookie spices and vanilla–but that dry, spicy skewer has become more like a stake. Dust it with cocoa powder and add some spearmint to the cookie spices, and you’ve got a fairly dry, layered take on bourbon. Fans of Four Roses, Old Granddad or Basil Hayden should rejoice at the thought.

  • Nose:

The nose is fairly fruit forward, opening with blueberries, overripe banana and orange peel. Joining the party are leather, brown sugar, crème brûlée, cinnamon and cornbread.

  • Taste:

Moderate viscosity — mouth-coating and very dry. The palate is oaky, with an agreeable flavor profile. Big banana bread note is joined by a big hit of cocoa powder, as well as plenty of dried cherry, raisin and cinnamon. The back palate turns darker and oakier, with semisweet chocolate, tobacco, dried cherries, leather.

  • Finish:

The finish leads with oak, caramel and dark chocolate. Spice soon trickles in: cinnamon and pepper, mostly.

  • Overall:

A delicious batch of Bomberger’s. Oak-forward with plenty of spice.
