Wrexham Lager Beer Co Ltd reported on Wednesday that it’s bringing two new co-owners aboard: Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The “Deadpool” actor and “Always Sunny” star will work in conjunction with the Roberts family, the current owners, who will still perform their regular duties for the beer brand.

“This is a brand with great heritage — the oldest lager brewery in Great Britain, once enjoyed across the world,” Wrexham Lager Beer Co. Ltd CEO James Wright said in a news release. “So, to have Rob and Ryan onboard as we embark on international expansion is huge for us. They have been doing wonders for the town of Wrexham and strongly share our passion for once again seeing Wrexham Lager enjoyed in all the far-flung corners of the globe.”

Reynolds and McElhenney are a natural fit to join the beer company, as they co-own the soccer team of Wrexham, which is a city in Wales.

The actors bid to purchase Wrexham AFC in November 2020 and completed the takeover in February 2021.

“As Co-chairmen of Wrexham AFC, we have learned a lot,” McElhenney and Reynolds shared in a joint statement. “The connection between club and community, the intricacies of the offsides rule and the occasional need for beer — especially after finance meetings. Wrexham Lager has a 140-year-old recipe and a storied history and we’re excited to help write its next chapter.”

Red Dragon Ventures, a company meant to grow the economy of Wrexham and Wrexham AFC, made the acquisition. It was formed by The R.R. McReynolds Company, which happens to be the majority owner of Wrexham AFC and the Allyn family. The company referred to the move as a “landmark deal” for the Welsh town.

On Wrexham’s socials, the two actors shared the news via Morse code in a clever video segment, which can be viewed below:

Wrexham’s portfolio includes the 4%-ABV Wrexham Lager, 5%-ABV Wrexham Lager Export and 4.6%-ABV Pilsner. The brand divulges that the original recipe for its Wrexham Lager dates back 140 years. Wrexham Lager was additionally the only lager served aboard the Titanic, which sunk on its maiden voyage in April 1912.

Reynolds and McElhenney are no strangers to the beverage scene. Reynolds’s claim to fame within the spirits industry is his ownership of Aviation Gin, and McElhenney launched Four Walls Whiskey in June 2023.

In April, both of Reynolds’ careers collided when Aviation Gin released limited-edition Deadpool & Wolverine-themed bottles celebrating the release of the Marvel film that hit theaters in July.
