American Single Malt Innovator Westland Distillery Releases 8th Edition of Award-Winning Garryana Whiskey

Westland Garryana

The eighth edition of Westland Garryana American Single Malt Whiskey is here.

On Wednesday, Seattle, Washington-based Westland Distillery — known for its American single malt whiskeys — announced the latest edition of Garryana, a single malt partially aged in casks made of Quercus Garryana, a species of oak indigenous to the Seattle region.

Distilled from Washington Select Pale Malt, Munich Malt, Extra Special Malt, Pale Chocolate Malt, Brown Malt and Golden Promise Malt, the eighth edition of Garryana American Single Malt is aged a minimum of four years in the following casks: Pedro Ximénez (45%), Virgin Garryana Oak (38%), Washington State red wine (12%) and first-fill ex-bourbon (5%).

“Garryana 8 plays on a theme established in editions four and six,” Westland Distillery Master Blender Shane Armstrong said in a news release. “Each edition is iterative and exploratory – a valley between retrospection and progression.  PX sherry casks recur in this release, all full maturation 500l Butts for 6-8 years, adding an atypical floral backdrop to a vatting defined by Garry Oak spice.”

Bottled at 100 proof, 7,380 bottles of the new Garryana will be released, available at whiskey retailers across the U.S. and online from Westland’s website.

The eighth edition of Westland Garryana American single malt has a suggested retail price of $149.99 per 700-milliliter bottle. According to Westland, it has notes of new leather, brown sugar butter, dried rose and plum on the nose and brown bread, almond croissant and semi-sweet chocolate on the palate.

This release comes in anticipation of the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau’s ratification of American Single Malt Whiskey Categorization.
