‘Peak Perfection’: The Latest Whisky in The Macallan’s Red Collection is 77 Years Old and Priced at Nearly $90,000

On Monday, luxury scotch whisky brand The Macallan announced The Macallan 77, the latest member of its Red Collection, a range of single malt whiskies said to be inspired by the significance of the color red throughout the history of The Macallan.

The new 77-year-old single malt is the first whisky to be added to the Red Collection since the launch of the range in 2020. At 77 years old, this release is one of the oldest whiskies ever bottled. The oldest known whisky is an 81-year-old release from The Macallan.

“The Macallan 77 Years Old is an incredible new high aged guest expression for The Red Collection, which has been crafted from some of the world’s oldest and rarest casks,” The Macallan master whisky maker Kirsteen Campbell said, according to Drinks International. “It is a peerless single malt whisky that has slowly matured over seven decades until it reached peak perfection.”

The new expression is housed in an oak presentation box, handcrafted in the United Kingdom. The bottle was hand-finished and signed by Campbell.

The Macallan 77 Years Old comes with a suggested retail price of $87,000/£65,500 and will be available from The Macallan Estate Boutique, The Macallan’s travel retail outlets and in various countries beginning this month.
