Gray Whale announced on Monday that it is expanding beyond gin with the debut of a new vodka, marking its entry into the world’s largest spirits category while doubling down on its ocean-focused brand identity.

The Connecticut-based brand, known for its California-inspired gin, announced the release of Gray Whale Vodka, a small-batch expression distilled from grain and California grapes. The launch represents the first new product under Gray Whale Spirits Co. and signals a broader portfolio expansion.

According to the company, the vodka is produced without additives or added sugar and is designed to deliver a balanced profile suited for both cocktails and sipping. The move allows the brand to reach a wider audience across both on- and off-premise channels.

Alongside the product launch, Gray Whale announced a new partnership with the Surfrider Foundation, a nonprofit focused on protecting oceans, waves, and beaches. The collaboration will center on community-driven initiatives, including beach cleanups and broader conservation efforts across U.S. coastlines.

The company said the partnership will support Surfrider’s goal of removing more than 750,000 pounds of trash and plastic from coastal areas over the next three years.

Gray Whale has positioned environmental stewardship as a core part of its identity since launch, including its membership in 1% for the Planet, which commits participating businesses to donate a portion of revenue to environmental causes.

The vodka release continues that strategy, linking product innovation with sustainability messaging as the brand looks to scale.

Gray Whale Vodka is now rolling out, with availability expected to expand as the brand builds distribution.
