‘Insecure’ Actress Issa Rae Launches Prosecco Rosé for Those Who Drink Pink

On Monday, Viarae Prosecco, the brand owned by “Insecure” and “Barbie” star, Issa Rae, announced that it’s thinking pink with a rosé prosecco. The sparkling wine clocks in at 11% ABV, hosts a suggested retail price of $19.99 and follows the October 2023 launch of Viarae’s flagship expression, a “crisp, lively and expressive” prosecco from 100% Glera grapes.

Viarae Prosecco Rosé DOC is composed of 88% Glera and 12% Pinot Noir. The grapes were sourced from The Veneto, a region in Northern Italy that is known for producing the Italian sparkling wine.

For its production process, the grapes were harvested in early September 2023 before they were crushed and gently pressed before experiencing a primary fermentation process in stainless steel to ensure crispness and acidity. The wine then spent time aging on its lees for 60 days during the secondary fermentation process on its lees.

Prosecco is typically Metodo Italiano, or the Charmat method, in which the grapes undergo a secondary fermentation technique in a tank that is kicked off by winemakers adding sugar and yeast. When a wine ages on its lees, like Issa Rae’s Viarae Prosecco, it often yields a richer and rounder mouthfeel.

Viarae recommends pairing its rosé prosecco with Asian food and Mexican food. Wine Spectator shares that prosecco is often recommended for cuisines with lots of umami and spicy flavors because the acidity of the bubbles balances well with all the complexity of the food. Prosecco is also a great option for salads and vegetable-forward dishes.

The brand shared in a news release that prosecco is Rae’s signature drink during celebrations and downtime, so creating her own prosecco brand seemed like a logical step.

Viarae Rosé Prosecco is described by the team as possessing a citrus-forward aroma on the nose. The palate is crisp, as is typical of the sparkling wine that hails from Northern Italy. With flavors of strawberry and peach that are balanced with bracing acidity, Viarae finishes with a kiss of sweetness, adding more body and weight to this bottle of bubbly.
