SB Nation reported that LeBron James enjoyed a bottle of the ultra-pricey California wine, Opus One, courtside while watching the Cleveland Cavaliers play against the Boston Celtics. A post from The Sporting News on X, formerly known as Twitter, showed the expensive bottle resting under the NBA star’s seat.
Basketball enthusiasts and oenophiles alike expressed their approval in the comments section.
“Opus One!” an individual commented.
The premium Napa Valley winery is the brainchild of two wine industry titans: Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and Napa Valley pioneer, Robert Mondavi.
Opus One specializes in robust, highly structured red wines made from Bordeaux varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Prices of Opus One can range widely, from the low $200 range to thousands of dollars.
LeBron James is quite the oenophile, and Wine Enthusiast reported that James is known to indulge in the occasional bottle of Sassicaia, Quintarelli Giuseppi, Corison and Pontet-Canet on occasion. Business Insider reported that LeBron James claimed he drank wine every night, as he believed it was good for his heart.
“Listen, I’m playing the best basketball of my life, and I’m drinking some wine pretty much every day. Whatever it is, I’ll take it,” James said during an interview.
Yet as far as business ventures go, it appears James’ eye has drifted to another libation of choice.
The basketball star launched an agave brand, Lobos 1707 Tequila & Mezcal in 2020. In February, Lobos 1707 Tequila unveiled a new campaign featuring the “Insecure” star and showrunner, Issa Rae.
Lobos 1707 Tequila & Mezcal features a line of Joven, Reposado, Añejo and Extra Añejo Tequilas in addition to a Mezcal.
