On Friday, the Irish Distillers of Pernod Ricard announced the reopening of the Midleton Distillery Experience after it was forced to close due to flood damage from an unprecedented storm in October.
“This is a huge day for the team in Midleton and everyone at Irish Distillers as we celebrate the reopening of the Midleton Distillery Experience,” Irish Distillers Brand Homes and Education Director Greg Hughes said, according to Pernod Ricard. “Midleton Distillery is the heart and soul of Irish whiskey, and our revamped visitor experience will only enhance its already stellar reputation for excellence on the international stage and deliver a world class tourist attraction.”
The revamped distillery experience features whiskey tastings, tours and a cocktail masterclass from the Irish Whiskey Academy, according to a news release. Those interested in booking tickets can do so here.
Midleton is Ireland’s biggest distillery and produces the whiskey you’ll find in popular bottles like Jameson, Redbreast, Midleton, Powers, Writers’ Tears, The Irishman and Spot Whiskey.
Those who choose to participate in the tour will be able to view Midleton’s cooperage, maturation warehouses and the world’s largest pot still. The distillery will also offer a “Discover Academy,” which offers an educational course on Irish whiskey’s production process.
In October, the Midleton Distillery Experience just finished a facility-wide overhaul, which drew to a close on Oct. 2. A few weeks later a month’s worth of rain fell from Storm Babet, which caused the neighboring Owenacurra River to overflow. Damage from the flooding forced Middleton to shutter its doors.
For the past few months, the team rallied together to open the new facilities.
The Midleton Distillery experience additionally features a new restaurant the Malthouse Café. Hughs concluded expressing his enthusiasm for the reopening with the following statement:
“We now look forward to welcoming our very many brand fans, domestic visitors and international tourists to the town of Midleton and East Cork area this year and into the future.”
