On Monday, the Columbus, Ohio distillery Middle West Spirits announced the completion of a massive, 75,000-square-foot building expansion with additional grain processing and bottling facilities, multiplying its production capacity by 10. These newly completed facilities make Middle West one of the largest independent distillers in North America from a production capacity standpoint.
“Along the journey of our own whiskey making development and growth, we have collaborated with partners at every stage and size of the process, from testing to full-scale commercial production,” Middle West head distiller and CEO Ryan Lang said in a news release. “Now that our expansion is complete, we are excited to continue these partnerships and help more fellow distillers by assisting with all aspects of whisky-making while we continue growing and innovating our own brands.”
Middle West claims the expansion provided the local community of Columbus more than its fair share of economic benefits and has tripled the distillery’s number of employees. The brand also said it intends to hire more staff in 2024, bringing more jobs to the Short North District.
