On Thursday, Jack Daniel’s announced that its Single Barrel Heritage Barrel Tennessee Whiskey will now be a permanent part of the distillery’s Single Barrel Collection. The whiskey was previously available only as a limited release in 2018 and 2019.

The Heritage Barrel expression is distilled from Jack Daniel’s traditional mashbill of 80% corn, 12% malted barley and 8% rye. After charcoal mellowing, the spirit enters special barrels that have been prepared with a high-toast, low-char toasting technique that Jack Daniel’s says was inspired by the “earliest barrel-making traditions,” creating a “deeper, richer toasted layer” before charring. The whiskey enters the Heritage Barrels at an unusually low proof of 100 and is aged in some of Jack Daniel’s’ highest-elevated rickhouses.

All Single Barrel Heritage Barrels are aged for at least seven years.

“The way our barrels are built and our ability to experiment are two of the most important parts of the Jack Daniel’s whiskey-making tradition,” Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Chris Fletcher said in a news release. “It was exciting for us to see what our Heritage Barrels produced with previous limited releases, and we’re thrilled to bring that same unforgettable flavor to more friends with this permanent offering.”

Jack Daniel’s describes the finished product as having oak on the nose, honey and candied fruit across the palate, and a finish of brown sugar.

Single Barrel Heritage Barrel Tennessee Whiskey is bottled at 100 proof and has a suggested retail price of $69.99 per 750-milliliter bottle. It is now available across the United States, with international distribution planned in the coming months.
