Jack Daniel’s announced on Tuesday the latest release within its Distillery Series: Selection #13 Tennessee Straight Rye Whiskey. The whiskey is distilled from a mashbill of 70% rye, 12% malted barley and 18% corn.
“Our Tennessee Rye is a take on rye whiskey that is uniquely Jack Daniel’s,” Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Chris Fletcher said in a news release. “The 70% rye grain bill allows the whiskey to shine through with just the right amount of spiciness and boldness. We’re excited to add a limited-edition expression to our rye lineup with this release, which introduces the whiskey to a second barreling to create a profile with even more depth and character.”
The limited-release rye whiskey hosts a suggested retail price of $41.99 per 375-milliliter bottle. The spirit is bottled at 107 proof.
Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series focuses on “experimental” releases from the Tennessee Whiskey brand. The brand claims the twice-barreling process integrates charred oak flavors, with a bit of blackstrap molasses, spearmint and baking spice. It additionally says the whiskey possessed “sweet smoke and burnt sugar on the nose.”
Jack Daniel’s used its signature charcoal mellowing process and then aged the whiskey in an American white oak barrel that was newly charred. After the initial maturation period, the distillery removed it from that barrel and placed it into an additional new charred American oak barrel for 2.5 years.
The last release within Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series launched with limited availability in November. The expression was an American single malt finished in Oloroso sherry casks. If you want to hear what we thought about it, you can read our review here.
