“Scooby-Doo” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s” star Matthew Lillard is paying boozy homage to one of his earliest and most iconic big-screen roles.

Macabre Spirits, the horror-themed liquor venture co-founded by Lillard and screenwriter Justin Ware, has unveiled Ghost Face Vodka. The release is styled after the villain of the long-running “Scream” franchise (a villain who, spoiler alert for a three-decade-old movie, Lillard played in the original installment alongside Skeet Ulrich’s Billy Loomis). The vodka represents something a full-circle moment for Lillard, who is slated to return to the role this February in Scream 7 (forgive the second spoiler alert, but wasn’t his character stabbed through the heart, hit with a vase and electrocuted to death?).

The spirit is distilled in Germany using 100% non-GMO potatoes. It’s bottled at 40% ABV and, according to the brand, offers an “imminently smooth, creamy mid-palate” followed by a silky finish.

Much like Lillard’s previous alcohol releases, Ghost Face Vodka will be made available for a limited time only. The product will go on sale at the beginning of February in the form of a $160, direct-to-consumer collectible set that contains more than enough goodies to justify its steep price tag. Each set includes a 750-milliliter bottle of vodka, a hand-signed autograph from Lillard, a collectible box and Ghost Face-branded glasses and pins. The back of each bottle also contains a QR code linking to a virtual social party game dubbed “Killer Bash” that was developed exclusively for the vodka.

“At Macabre Spirits, we love creating premium spirit experiences for the horror community,” Lillard said in a news release. “I’ve had a long, lovely history with that mask, so getting to work with Fun World to bring the iconic Ghost Face mask into a whole new space felt full-circle. It’s a chance to give fans something premium, something collectible, and something that tastes incredible—just in time for me to return to the scene of the crime this February.”

Following the successful launch of a Dungeons and Dragons-inspired whiskey series, Quest’s End, Lillard debuted the horror-adjacent Macabre Spirits in October 2024. The brand’s inaugural release was a Texas-sourced, barrel-aged sotol, a type of liquor distilled from desert spoon shrubs endemic to the American Southwest and Northern Mexico.

Its flavors were every bit as wild as its ghastly inspirations. Tasting the sotol at launch, we found that the spirit towed a tricky line between sweet hints of toffee, vanilla and blood orange, contrasted against a sharp, almost medicinal undercurrent of spearmint and lemongrass.

Though there will undoubtedly be a lot less to say about a neutral spirit like vodka, we’re interested to see if and how Lillard shakes up the formula with his latest stab at scream-inducing spirits.
