Distilled by Wilderness Trail, this is their single barrel bourbon, distileld from 64% corn, 24% rye and 12% malted barley. Wilderness Trail distills on a copper pot and matured this barrel in an ISC Char 4. I'm a huge fan of what Wilderness Trail is doing, so it's exciting to be tasting through another single barrel from their latest batches. Let's dive in!

  • Overall, Wilderness Trail continues to amaze me. Their ryes have always taken center stage for me but this bourbon brings a complexity to compete with ease. While they're far beyond being a craft sized producer these days, they still remain one of my favorite new producers to hit the scene and I can't get enough of their new releases.

  • Nose:

Rich and toasty on the nose, Wilderness Trail always brings big dessert character and baking spice: honey, toffee, a hint of cinnamon and clove that powers through with sweet oak and a touch of ginger.

  • Taste:

Rich on the palate, Wilderness Trail always presents this really impressive viscosity on the palate even without stacking up decades of aging. This barrel has that quality as well. Rich toffee and cocoa up front, brown sugar and a hint of oatmeal cookie and tobacco on the palate.

  • Finish:

Long finish, rich and sweet with a stack of balancing oak, honey and a final wisp of cinnamon.
