Released in March 2025, Whiskey JYPSI Tribute Double Barreled Bourbon is the latest release from country music star Eric Church's Whiskey JYPSI brand, which has achieved impressive acclaim since it was founded in 2020. This release is different for JYPSI; the brand is diverging from its portfolio of premium releases with high prices with this release, which has a suggested retail price of just $44.99 and is bottled at a low 43% ABV. Tribute is aged a minimum of four years and double-barreled in new American oak for three to six months. The whiskey is distilled from grains sourced from "small family farms," according to the company, including a variety of Cherokee white corn, which JYPSI describes as "once-sacred." The bourbon is distilled from a mashbill of 80% corn, 10% rye and 10% malted barley and is sourced from distilleries in Tennessee and Kentucky.

Light, sweet and nutty on the nose. Big time banana walnut muffin note is joined by vanilla and a touch of blueberry jam
Moderate palate with butterscotch pudding, cherry, char, almonds, some minerality and a touch of smoked meat. It's not too complex, but it's sweet and pleasant, with a savory touch that ties the pour together.
Short to medium finish: ash, more minerality, slivered almonds, banana pudding and some youthful heat.
This strikes some solid notes, but altogether I think the double oak paired with such a low proof falls flat, especially on the finish. It tastes on the youthful side, and there's a minerality that's not quite working. I'm not sure where this is distilled, specifically, but it tastes rather like a certain Tennessee distillery — although given the brand touting the use of grains from small family farms, that may not be the case. Overall, this is a little bit disappointing considering I've historically been a huge fan of JYPSI's releases, but going from premium to everyday releases is no easy task for any brand. Just like with country music, not every release can be a hit — but I'm excited for the next one and still have very high hopes for this brand.
