Three Chord RIOT Double Bonded Rye is a blend of two bottled-in-bond rye whiskeys sourced from MGP in Indiana and Bardstown Bourbon Company in Kentucky. It uses a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, aged between four and seven years. Bottled without chill filtration at 100 proof, it retails for around $50.
Combining whiskeys from other distilleries is never easy, especially when it comes to ryes; however, Three Chord Bourbon RIOT Double Bonded Rye results in an easy to enjoy rye.
The initial citrus punch shifts into cedarwood and French vanilla coffee, offering a slightly earthy and roasted character. On the palate, Riot delivers toasted almonds and orange peel, including the pith, which brings a noticeable bitterness. The orange quickly deepens into smoked paprika and white pepper, adding spice and edge. The mouthfeel is pleasantly oily, carrying the flavors evenly.
Our current favorite rye of 2025. Vivacious and captivating nose of rich wood and crackling rye spice. Upon tasting, the journey is near about perfect as you could ask for. A melding of sweet and spicy, there is total cohesion here. Warm, open, engaging and most of all exceptionally tasty, this is a rye that any whiskey lover should own. Medium body and an even fade on the finish. Just exquisite.
