Best known for its range of mezcals, The Lost Explorer recently forayed into the tequila category with help from former Don Julio master distiller Enrique de Colsa. Agaves are double distilled in the Valles region near El Arenal, Jalisco and bottled at 40% ABV.

Sweet but subdued notes of guava, mango, lime and vanilla. There's some buttercream drifting around and a spiced note halfway between cinnamon and black pepper.
Welcomingly agave forward. You get all those earthy vegetal notes alongside a squeeze of tart lemon juice, lavender, anise and more of that spiciness observed on the nose. The mouthfeel is a touch thin, but there's more than enough flavor going on.
A medium-length finish rounds out with rose petals, white pepper and orange blossoms. Quite floral.
A smooth, easygoing tequila that's light on its feet. A nice balance of tropical and floral notes gives this the vibe of a springtime sipper. It's always cool to see mezcal brands try their hand at tequila, and I'm curious how the concept might be elevated somehow in future releases.
