Stranahan's Distillery Exclusive Peated Cask Finish is an American single malt made from 100% malted barley at Stranahan's distillery in Denver, Colorado. The whiskey is initially aged in virgin American oak before finishing in a blend of 65% Islay Scotch whisky casks aged 6 to 12 years and 35% domestic peated casks aged 8 to 11 years. It is available only at the Stranahan's Denver distillery and the Stranahan's Whiskey Lodge in Aspen.

  • I wish the peat was a bit more subtle, but this is a wonderful whiskey nonetheless. While heavy handed, the peat does pair very well with the Stranahan's distillate.

  • Nose:

    Beautiful nose. The classic Stranahan's profile — Blackberry, clove — is layered with gritty yet subtle peat.

  • Taste:

    Peat is at the forefront here — it’s rubbery, vegetal and herbaceous, with a huge cigar tobacco vibe. Behind the peat lies sweet cream, blackberry, clove and leather, gingerbread and vanilla.

  • Finish:

    The finish is long and ashy, beginning with plenty of peat, followed by charred mango and cinnamon.

  • Overall:

    I wish the peat was a bit more subtle, but this is a wonderful whiskey nonetheless. While heavy handed, the peat does pair very well with the Stranahan's distillate.
