Rampur Indian Single Malt Whisky Vintage Select Casks is produced by Radico Khaitan, one of India's oldest distilleries, located in the foothills of the Himalayas in Uttar Pradesh. It is distilled from six-row barley in copper pot stills and matured in a combination of hand-picked American Bourbon barrels and European Oak Sherry casks. The whisky carries no age statement, is bottled without chill filtration at 43% ABV and retails for around $99.
The bold palate opens with sandalwood, incense and candied ginger, rounding into an elongated finish that echoes red fruit and warming baking spice, plus a fleeting floral hint on the exhale.
The palate carries much of the same quality — slightly astringent and oxidized, with notes of incense, more camphor, and Meyer lemon peel. Stronger granary-driven notes mingle with some spice, pushing on to lavender and linen notes on the finish.
