Pinhook Collaboration Series No. 3 is an Australian single malt whisky crafted in collaboration with Jordan Salcito, an internationally renowned sommelier and founder of the ready-to-drink spritz brand RAMONA. This edition blends four styles of Starward Australian Single Malt, made from 100% malted barley and aged in red wine barrels sourced from Starward Distillery. The barrels are aged in Melbourne’s fluctuating climate, which accelerates the aging process. The whisky has a proof of 114.8 and is priced at around $99.99.

  • Given the cask strength nature of the whisky, the mouthfeel is silky smooth. Moving to the finish, subtle cinnamon mingles with dried cherries as notes of honey appear once more as the experience fades into Danish butter cookies.

  • Nose:

Sweet, tropical, delightful, complex and lightly nutty nose. Mango, banana pudding, caramel, raspberry, light baking spice, pecan.

  • Taste:

Oaky, tannic and wildly tropical. Plenty of oak is joined by loads of mango, kiwi and pineapple, pecan pie, cherry-syrup shaved ice and peach, with some leather toward the back palate.

  • Finish:

A prickle of heat kicks off a long, buttery finish that delivers plenty of oak, plus raspberry, orange, peach tea, a kiss of butterscotch and a huge Juicy Fruit gum note that lingers for minutes.

  • Overall:

Delicious bottling of Starward. Happy to see Pinhook hopefully draw some new American attention to this stellar Australian distillery with a well-selected, beautifully blended expression.

  • Score:

    92
