Old Forester 1924 10 Year Old (2025)

  • Distiller

    Old Forester

  • Bottler

    Old Forester

  • ABV

    50%

  • Age

    10 Years

  • Price $100 to $199.99

Released in January 2025, this is the second annual release of 1924, a 10-year-old bourbon bottled at 100 proof. The most interesting aspect of this bourbon is its mashbill, which varies from Old Forester's standard 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malted barley recipe. Instead, it's distilled from a mashbill of 79% corn, 11% rye and 10% malted barley. It's a part of Forester's Whiskey Row Series and has a suggested retail price of $119.99. The name is a nod to (duh) the year 1924, when Old Forester acquired barrels of bourbon from neighboring distilleries (made from different mashbills) that had shut down in the wake of Prohibition and bottled them as Old Forester products.

  • It is not Michter’s 10 Year Old Bourbon, but also not too far behind it either.

  • A slight tweak of the standard Old Forester mashbill, along with a double-digit age statement, results in an Old Forester bourbon that stands out in their current lineup.

  • It's not overly complex, but it's decadent in flavor, and fans of oak will surely enjoy this.

  • Overall, it is an easy-drinking bourbon. Not hugely complex. Perhaps a good starter whiskey if you are just beginning to explore.

  • Nose:

Oaky and sweet on the nose. Oak is the focus and is joined by rich butterscotch and vanilla bean, plus tannin and leather

  • Taste:

Fairly viscous in texture, the palate follows the nose's suit, remaining quite oaky with plenty of tannin and butterscotch. Chocolate-covered almonds, ash, cracked pepper and a kiss of clove join the party, along with a prickle of heat.

  • Finish:

A sharp bite of oak kicks off a drying finish that's medium in length, concluding with notes of almonds, vanilla and a touch of toasted cornbread.

  • Overall:

A dry, oaky bourbon that strikes some nice notes. It's not overly complex, but it's decadent in flavor, and fans of oak will surely enjoy this.

  • Score:

    88
