Macallan

Distilled in 2008, this release from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society features Macallan whiskey aged in both an Oloroso butt and then finished in a First Fill Spanish Oak Oloroso Cask. Bottled at 63% ABV, this is about near the top of the ABV scale for recent Macallan releases from any bottler. Bottled without coloring or filtering, this should be an elusive treat as one of SMWS's most highly sought after and expensive bottlings in some time.

Rich cocoa, red berries, currant, blackberry and toffee with a punch of ethanol and sweet oak.
Rich and viscous, perfect pairing of oak, pepper, butter cream, blackberry and sweet, nutty sherry character. Raisin bread, jammy sherry. Decadent and powerful.
Long finish. The ethanol peeks out here, bringing a touch of ethanol to pair nicely with cocoa, honey, blackberry preserve, bitter Amarao, cinnamon and maple, and cherry cordials. Jammy, spicy, savory and rich with a modest ethanol component that's meeker than expected.
OVerall, this is wildly decadent, and a portrait of Macallan's immense potential. If every Macallan were like this, I'd probably own stock. Unreal.
