  • Nose:

The nose is bright, fruit-forward and really pleasant Plenty of apple, peach and pear are joined by nougat, buttery shortbread and chocolate shavings.

  • Taste:

Moderate mouthfeel. The flavor profile is less fruity than the nose suggested. Fruit notes are still here — pineapple, mango, pear, raspberry, blackberry — but they're joined by more of a baking spice-centric profile of cinnamon and nutmeg, plus dark chocolate, banana bread, honey and a bit of tobacco.

  • Finish:

The finish opens with cinnamon and dark chocolate, before moving into overripe banana, apricot, leather and a dark-grape Oloroso note.

  • Overall:

Jameson's Distiller's Reserve is a very drinkable and enjoyable Irish whiskey. It appears light and fruity on the nose, yet on the palate reveals enough depth and darkness to keep things interesting. For a $50 bottle, this is very solid stuff.
