Released in October 2026, Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Special Release Coy Hill Rye is a single-barrel barrel-proof Tennessee rye whiskey. The barrels bottled for this release were matured in rickhouses atop Coy Hill, the highest elevation point at the Lynchburg, Tennessee distilling campus. This release marks the first time a rye whiskey aged on Coy Hill has been bottled as a single-barrel release.

Distilled from Jack Daniel’s signature Tennessee Rye mashbill of 70% rye, 18% corn and 12% malted barley, the whiskey was charcoal mellowed before entering new, charred American white oak barrels in 2016.

This rye whiskey is bottled between 128.7 and 148.5 proof, varying by barrel. The sample we tasted for our house review was 133.1 proof, or 66.55% ABV. The limited-edition release is available at select stores across the U.S. at a suggested retail price of $89.99 per 700-milliliter bottle.

  • Good rye is easy to come by. Great rye is tough to find. Sadly, my expectation is that this one will also be nearly impossible to get — but you might as well try.

  • A phenomenal, flavorful and well balanced rye that surprised me; in some senses, it's on-profile for Jack Daniel's, but it’s darker and oakier in profile than most other barrel-proof ryes I’ve had from the brand.

  • Nose:

Lots of heat on the nose, but a gorgeous, nuanced profile full of spice, sweetness and fruit lies beneath it. Sweet cream, salted caramel, apple, apricot, plum, cinnamon, cloves, candied ginger, sassafras, anise, cola, toasted marshmallow, maple.

  • Taste:

Thick viscosity on the palate. The flavor profile is dark and quite oak-heavy, with notes of barrel char, leather, cocoa, cinnamon, cloves, gingerbread, anise, sassafras, orange peel, dark, medicinal cherry, blackberry. As it gets more air it lightens up a bit, accentuating notes of apple, apricot and Bavarian cream.

  • Finish:

The finish opens with butterscotch, brown sugar, cinnamon, gingerbread, cloves and pear, settling into a profile of toasted oak, honey, plum and Cinnamon Toast Crunch

  • Overall:

A phenomenal, flavorful and well balanced rye that surprised me; in some senses, it's on-profile for Jack Daniel's, but it’s darker and oakier in profile than most other barrel-proof ryes I’ve had from the brand. It almost reminds me of a rye aged somewhere like Texas with all that oak and dry spice. Yet, it never comes across as over-oaked. It’s delicious and rich.
