Released in August 2025, this is the latest release of Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Heritage Barrel, which came with news that this former limited-time offering is now available year-round as part of Jack Daniel's' Single Barrel Collection. At the time of the release, Jack Daniel's said it will roll out to international markets in the coming months, as well.

About the whiskey: It's Jack's classic mashbill of 80% corn, 8% rye and 12% malted barley. After the Tennessee whiskey requirement of being filtered through charcoal (10 feet of sugar maple charcoal, in the case of Jack Daniel's), it's aged in barrels that underwent a high-toast, low-char process that Jack Daniel's says was "inspired by the earliest barrel-making traditions." Jack Daniel's enters this whiskey into the barrels at an extremely low proof of 100 and matures it in "some of the highest-elevated barrel houses" it has. Each barrel will vary in age but all are aged at least seven years before bottling. It's bottled at the same 100 proof it enters the barrels at. We will be reviewing barrel No. 25–04912, which was filled on July 12, 2017 and bottled on Aug. 4, 2025 — making it more than 8 years old.

  • At $70, I think it's priced fairly aggressively and will be a very solid mid-shelf bang-for-your-buck bottle.

  • The flavor has plenty of candy corn and vanilla, the nuttiness and mint from the earlier version, but the dill is absent and the trademark Jack banana note makes a very modest appearance.

  • I spent hours with this bottle trying to coax something out of it. Maybe I’ll give it another try in a few months to see if I was missing something — or if this barrel just didn’t pan out as expected.

  • Nose:

For Jack Daniel's' low-rye mashbill, this is surprisingly spice-heavy on the nose. Clove, ginger and nutmeg are at play with honey, custard and a big hit of playful blackberry, plus a bit of cola and caramel.

  • Taste:

This whiskey has a viscosity somewhere between moderate and thick and a lovely dessert-forward palate full of custard, butterscotch, honey and cocoa powder. A nice slice of oak cuts through the sweetness, joined by some of that spice from the nose (cinnamon, clove and a pinch of horseradish). That blackberry note from the nose returns here, joined by some cherry.

  • Finish:

Chocolate shavings, French toast, toasted oak, cinnamon, cherry syrup, plum and a touch of Amburana.

  • Overall:

This is my first time tasting Heritage Barrel, and I'm impressed (obligatory single-barrel reminder that every barrel is different, and your mileage may vary). My experience with the bottle I tasted is that this is classic Jack in a lot of ways, but some of the soft sweetness reminds me a bit of Michter's — which totally makes sense. Between the low barrel entry proof and custom toasted and charred barrels, the production is similar. Overall: This is outstanding stuff from Jack Daniel’s. It’s sweet but balanced, perfectly proofed and just damn delicious. It's delicious neat and I think would be spectacular in a cocktail. With it's lighter profile, I think it's a perfect warm-weather sipper, as well. At $70, I think it's priced fairly aggressively and will be a very solid mid-shelf bang-for-your-buck bottle.
