A hotly awaited release, Jack Daniels has finally released a Single Barrel, Barrel Proof, release of their rye whiskey, after years of offering their bourbon.
If there is one thing that Brown-Forman does exceptionally well, it’s their brand’s rye whiskey. So even though you might not have ever considered Jack to get your rye fix in the past, it deserves your attention today.
Knocking it out of the park here. Jack Daniels delivers a long time ask from me this year in the form of a powerful rye that manages to remain complex and enticing, even in the face of 60+% ABV.
It’s bold and citrus-forward on the finish, with notes of spiced almonds and chocolate, and it surprisingly drinks fairly easily even at more than 65% abv.

House Review
Nose:
Rich clove, honey, brown sugar and a hint of clove. Light on the banana, heavy on dessert notes like that brown sugar. Heavy and decadent.
Taste:
Sweet cream, clove, rye spice and brown sugar. Spicy banana notes - like pepper, banana runt, some cinnamon. Pretty balanced, and the rye spice integrates so nicely against the brown sugar and banana.
Finish:
Long finish. Heavy on molasses, clove, white pepper and a hint of tropical fruit.
Overall:
Knocking it out of the park here. Jack Daniels delivers a long time ask from me this year in the form of a powerful rye that manages to remain complex and enticing, even in the face of 60+% ABV.
