  • I was thinking that Michter’s Toasted Barrel Rye Whiskey would be a good competitor to this particular bottle while I was drinking it, but I must admit that Michter’s does it better (and it’s barrel strength).

  • Overall, this is an interesting, scrappy rye. For rye lovers, this will be a hit. For those with prejudice or uncertainty, the maple finish will be the victor instead. It's very good whiskey, but punchy as hell and drinkers should be expecting it as they approach the glass.

  • A double barreled rye, Jack Daniels Distillery Series Selection #9 delivers a fun sip with a heavy love it or hate it emphasis on banana notes.

  • The finish is absolutely the best part, running long and wide with equal currents of sweetness and spiciness.

  • Nose:

Wonderfully creamy, packed with cocoa and creme brulee, honey and cocoa, pepper and that distinctive honey roasted peanut note.

  • Taste:

Moderate mouthfeel, a good deal of char, rye bite, light herbal spice and some pepper and clove. Spicy and punchy.

  • Finish:

Short to medium finish, spicy and sharp, pleasant but a pour for rye lovers and dedicated ones at that.

  • Overall:

Overall, this is an interesting, scrappy rye. For rye lovers, this will be a hit. For those with prejudice or uncertainty, the maple finish will be the victor instead. It's very good whiskey, but punchy as hell and drinkers should be expecting it as they approach the glass.
