  • I didn’t favor this one as much as some of my colleagues did, but writing that isn’t to knock it. It’s a mighty fine whiskey, and it continues to be worth checking in with what Lynchburg does with their rye.

  • A distillery-only limited release that takes some risks, Jack Daniel’s Toasted Maple Barrel Rye is a whiskey that needs to become an ongoing product.

  • Overall, this is sweet and pleasant. It's not a raucous rye, and it's not a toasted nightmare, both of which are facets that work towards the success of this pour. It won't top the charts, but it's impossible not to enjoy neat either.

  • Overall, this was polished and well made, but needed a bit more depth to score a rating that would make me label it as truly “Great.”

  • Nose:

Sweet and buttery on the nose, tons of fresh creamed corn, butterscotch and a light dab of vanilla bean. Sweet, not necessarily the most complex, but plenty enticing.

  • Taste:

Oddly rich on the palate, a prickle of heat and a fat dab of peanut brittle, honey roasted peanuts and caramel corn. Pleasant viscosity on the palate.

  • Finish:

Short finish, sweet and nutty with a prickle of heat, there's a touch of butterscotch and honey roasted peanuts. The rye spice is mostly glossed over here, though the toast brings some additional sweetness.
