Distilled by Jack Daniel's, this is the eighth release of its Distillery Series, which features a rye whiskey aged in maple wood barrels, utilizing a high toast. Let's dive in!
I didn’t favor this one as much as some of my colleagues did, but writing that isn’t to knock it. It’s a mighty fine whiskey, and it continues to be worth checking in with what Lynchburg does with their rye.
Overall, this is sweet and pleasant. It's not a raucous rye, and it's not a toasted nightmare, both of which are facets that work towards the success of this pour. It won't top the charts, but it's impossible not to enjoy neat either.

House Review
Nose:
Sweet and buttery on the nose, tons of fresh creamed corn, butterscotch and a light dab of vanilla bean. Sweet, not necessarily the most complex, but plenty enticing.
Taste:
Oddly rich on the palate, a prickle of heat and a fat dab of peanut brittle, honey roasted peanuts and caramel corn. Pleasant viscosity on the palate.
Finish:
Short finish, sweet and nutty with a prickle of heat, there's a touch of butterscotch and honey roasted peanuts. The rye spice is mostly glossed over here, though the toast brings some additional sweetness.
