Released in September 2024, Jack Daniel's Coy Hill Single Barrel Series clocks in at a high proof that ranges from 122 to 137.5. It is named after its Coy Hill barrelhouse, which sits on the highest elevation of Jack Daniel's property in Lynchburg, Tennessee and is exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations. 2024's Coy Hill Barrelhouse 8 is distilled from a mashbill of 80% corn, 12% malted barley and 8% rye. It was charcoal mellowed and matured in charred American white oak casks and hosts a suggested retail price of $79.99.
The 2024 version is a bit softer, but with a drop in proof (and increase in age), the resulting whiskey is arguably every bit as good. Sip it neat, sip it with water, do what you please: If you’re lucky enough to score a bottle, just make sure to share with friends.
Full of rich bold flavors, the latest lot of barrels pulled from a Jack Daniel’s famed Coy Hill barrelhouse will have consumers clamoring to try to get their hands on a bottle.
Lovely and immersive, it's not the hazmat monstrosity of the original Coy Hill, and frankly, that's probably a good thing: That whiskey had so much alcohol in it that it was reportedly illegal to carry on a plane.
All in all, this 2024 Coy Hill expression is undeniably flavor packed, benefitting greatly from not just its advanced proof but also a very mature age statement that gives it a depth of oaky complexity.

House Review
Nose:
Huge, fat, rich, powerful nose. Tons of butterscotch, honey roasted peanuts, a touch of char and coffee and then back to the brown sugar and caramel show.
Taste:
Rich on the palate — oaky and dry and loaded with char, toffee, crème brûlée, cinnamon, tobacco, banana and honey roasted nuts. It’s not as punishing as other special releases at very high proofs and I like how the oak is integrated.
Finish:
Long finish. Honey, char, toffee and tons of oak. It’s drier than Coy Hill’s original releases and it’s full of dessert and peanut brittle. Lovely, but it’s a bruiser.
Overall:
Unique but ultimately a more balanced, mature, complex release, and for that, I love this release from Jack Daniel’s.
Score:
92
