  • Altogether it’s a dramatic upgrade from Old No. 7, though it maintains a family resemblance, never throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

  • Jack Daniel’s Bottled-in-Bond is… fine. It’s sweet, easygoing and unobjectionable, but also lacks any distinguishing attributes that would make it an interesting dram to sip.

  • Not mega-complex, but entirely pleasant and an easy sipper. This is the missing link between the abomination that is No. 7.

  • While I wouldn’t advocate for the immediate booking of an international flight in order to procure a bottle, this is certainly a no-brainer buy if you’re traveling abroad.

  • Nose:

Sweet, corn bread muffins, clover honey, toffee, light pepper and a touch of honey roasted peanuts. Banana split ice cream and banana runts. Sweet, toffee forward on the nose. No ethanol.

  • Taste:

Medium mouthfeel. Sweet, once again, and mild. Little touch of ethanol here at 50% ABV, but pretty mild. Light on oak as well. Lots of butter cream, corn bread, toffee, banana split, honey roasted peanuts and a creamy, cocoa note on the back palate.

  • Finish:

Short and sweet, pleasant and buttery. It's mild, approachable, exits cleanly. Sweet butter cream, a touch of clover honey, cocoa and a touch of peanut brittle once more. Light touch of espresso and it's gone.

  • Overall:

Not mega complex, but entirely pleasant and an easy sipper. This is the missing link between the abomination that is No. 7 and Gentleman Jack and the bruisers that are Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof releases. It's easy to enjoy, has plenty of character and puts forward a vastly superior foot for the distillery to enthusiasts and curious drinkers looking for a whiskey that...tastes good.
