Holladay Distillery in Missouri truly exploded in popularity in 2023, perhaps more than any previously unestablished brand. That's for good reason; everything we've had from Holladay has been excellent. Today we're checking out Holladay's Soft Red Wheat Bourbon, which is distilled from a mashbill of 73% corn, 15% wheat and 12% malted barley, aged six years and bottled at 120.1 proof. This is bottled at cask strength and features components from various barrels from different locations throughout Holladay's rickhouse.

  • I mentioned above how similar I found this to be with Maker’s Mark. And while I’d love to say that you should pick the Holladay over the Maker’s, it may come down to a price difference for many.

  • The finish is a tad hot as expected with a high proof whiskey, but the flavors don't fizzle out, lingering sweetly on the palate.

  • Nose:

Rich and sweet on the nose with tons of cream, plum, honey, confectioners sugar and brown butter.

  • Taste:

Rich mouthfeel, sweet toffee and crème brûlée. Light on the oak, a hint of youth and banana but tons of rich, sweet dessert. Lovely stuff with an ABV that sneaks right by.

  • Finish:

Long finish that's heavy on the banana bread, toffee, crème brûlée and a touch of cocoa and oak.

  • Overall:

Lovely release, really impressive work from Holladay here. They’re on a roll.
