In 2025, Slow & Low expanded its pre-mixed old fashioned lineup with two new offerings: A Cherry Old Fashioned and a Maple Old Fashioned. Produced and bottled by Hochstadter's in Scobeyville, New Jersey, the Maple Old Fashioned is the result of a collaboration with Crown Maple, using the brand's 100%, pure organic syrup tapped in upstate New York and Vermont. The cocktail is made with rye whiskey, bottled at 40% ABV and is now available in 750-milliliter formats at a suggested retail price of $29.99.

  • Maple syrup zig zags in every direction, coating the palate in a thick, voluminous mouthfeel. Tastes just like the real stuff. Behind the sweetness lurks a big roasted walnut note, some pumpkin spice and sticky fall fruit flavor that contributes to the unexpectedly fortified wine-like vibe.

  • Nose:

Aromas of light maple syrup, rye spice, sweet vermouth and marzipan.

  • Taste:

Maple syrup zig-zags in every direction, coating the palate in a thick, voluminous mouthfeel. Tastes just like the real stuff. Behind the sweetness lurks a big roasted walnut note, some pumpkin spice and sticky fall fruit flavor that contributes to an unexpectedly fortified wine-like vibe.

  • Finish:

Spicy flecks of nutmeg, malt and toasted bread pick up on the backend, coated in the all-enveloping maple sweetness.

  • Overall:

This is a maple syrup cocktail through and through, one that demands an oversized ice cube or two to cut through the sticky sweet flavor. If, like me, you enjoy those leaf-shaped, crystalized maple candies found at the farmer's market, then this will be a slam dunk.
