A pleasant chorus of vanilla and brown sugar, light baking spice and some sweet oak on the nose. Reminds me of the first time I got a whiff of Four Roses Small Batch Select, and my eyebrows went up a bit. Sweet and spice in a head-on collision.
Moderate palate. At 46% ABV, it’s not firing punches left and right, but it manages a very pleasant mouthfeel and a bundling of brown sugar, cinnamon, a touch of pepper and a graham cracker crust sweetness.
Moderate finish. This is much more complex throughout than expected, weaving together candied ginger, waffle cone, brown sugar and a dash of oak.
Overall, this might be the new gateway whiskey on the block. This reminds me of everything I love about Green River’s bourbon, and it’s clear you can’t go wrong with Ascension, either. Really delicious.
