Hard Truth Distilling Co. released Mizunara Finished Wheated Bourbon as part of its 2026 Barrel Finish Reserve collection, with availability beginning May 9 at the distillery in Nashville, Indiana, and early access offered April 24 at the Cask & Still Social event. The limited release comprises a 24-barrel batch made from the BW-2 mash bill of 69% corn, 19% wheat and 12% malted barley, finished in Mizunara oak and bottled at cask strength. The expression retails for $69.99.

Per the brand, the aroma features nougat, vanilla bean maple syrup, cacao and cinnamon. The palate presents candied pecan, peach cobbler, salted almond cookie and Bavarian cream, followed by a finish of baking spice, candied peach, oak, toasted pecan and black coffee.

  • Nose:

Pleasant nose, sweet with a nice oak presence and gentle spice. Cherry danish, orange peel, orange candied, cinnamon, candied ginger.

  • Taste:

Moderate mouthfeel, The palate takes cues from the nose with its sweet, candied profile. Brown sugar and caramel meet orange candies, maraschino cherries, watermelon candies and a sort of woody-mineral note that often comes along with Mizunara in my experience, plus a lightly smoky barrel char note and cashew butter. There’s a good bit of spice here too — cinnamon and sassafras — that’s very well integrated. All together it’s a very good, sweet and balanced palate.

  • Finish:

Cinnamon, plum and fatty almonds lead a really wonderful finish that continues with crème fraiche and brown sugar.

  • Overall:

A delightful, dessert-forward, rich bourbon from Hard Truth.

  • Score:
