This rye whiskey comes from Indiana's Hard Truth Distilling Company, known for its sweet mash whiskeys. This is batch 003 of the Master Distiller's Reserve series. It's a blend of three Hard Truth recipes: 50% RW-4 caramel malt rye, 30% RW-6 malted rye and 20% RW-3 chocolate malt rye. Aged at least four years, this rye is bottled at 115 proof. Only 20 barrels were produced, and the whiskey is priced at $89.99.

  • Nose:

    Soft, toasty, rich nose. A big French toast note is joined by cinnamon, cola, vanilla, cherry, blackberry, sassafras and clove.

  • Taste:

    Oaky and bold on the palate, which is loaded with cinnamon, clove, cherry, plum, blackberry, crème brûlée, marshmallow and tobacco.

  • Finish:

    Clove, cinnamon, crème brûlée, oak. A big cocoa note strikes, followed by cherry, gingerbread, satisfying burnt marshmallow and orange candies.

  • Overall:

    Hard Truth's 2024 Master Distiller's Reserve is huge, rich, complex and one of the best rye whiskeys of 2024.
