Sweet cream, apples, pears, peaches and honey on the nose. Light smoke, ash, char, salinity and a hint of minerality.
Gorgeous viscosity on the palate — not too syrupy, but not light or thin, either. Honey, almonds, honeydew and a touch of melon before apples, pears and spiced peaches ride into the mix. The peat is present but delicate, a nuance of the background rather than a sledgehammer to the palate.
Long, sweet and complex finish. More peat and ash here, but it’s lovely: balanced, sweet and complex.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this release, but it exceeds all past Hakushu releases I’ve had. Beautiful complexity and balance make this a true work of art.
