Green River Honey Finished Bourbon Whiskey begins as four-year-old Green River Distilling Co. Kentucky straight bourbon distilled and aged in Owensboro, Kentucky. A custom blend of raw honey sourced from family-owned apiaries across the Midwest and South is added directly to the barrel, allowing the bourbon and honey to integrate over time. The whiskey is bottled at 46% ABV and carries a suggested retail price of $24.99.

Pleasant nose. It does not offput me with gobs of honey, which is a great start here. Honey is the most predominant note without a doubt, but there’s also noticeable cinnamon and pepper.
Thick, syrupy viscosity (but not to the point where it comes across as artificial). I’m impressed by the balance here. There’s lots of honey here, but it’s balanced quite well by oak and barrel char, cinnamon, pepper, clove, a bit of anise, green apple, pear and a nice butterscotch note. All in all, this is a very tasty pour.
The finish is short. It leads with oak and pecan before transitioning into a full-on honey experience. The finish is the most cloying part of the sip, but it’s not terribly overbearing, and the honey flavor is natural and very tasty.
This is a very cool release that sits somewhere in between a typical flavored whiskey and a bourbon. That’s a lane that’s fairly vacant, and I’m happy to see Green River take it over. I’m a big fan of something like this existing. Bring it to your next tailgate; it’s a hell of a better bottle than Fireball or other honey-flavored whiskeys on the market.
If you’re a whiskey drinker wondering if this is worth trying: I’d say yes. A sweet tooth is mandatory without a doubt, but this is more balanced and has more depth to it than a typical flavored whiskey. You won’t grimace and picture the next-day headache upon your first sip.
I wasn’t sure how I’d feel heading into this tasting, but I found myself really enjoying it. Nice work, Green River.
