GlenAllachie 2012 Vintage Cuvée Cask Finish is a 9 year old Speyside single malt made at the GlenAllachie Distillery in Aberlour. It was matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, then finished for over 20 months in red wine barriques from Languedoc, Valpolicella and two Bordeaux Premier Cru Classé chateaux before being blended. It is bottled at 48% ABV without chill filtration or added color and sells for around $100 in the U.S.
Rosewater and orange liqueur, a stronger oak presence than I was expecting. Manuka honey, wheat toast, drying red wine casks and clearly recognizable French oak tannins.
a nice oily texture. Spicy notes are claiming more space (pepper and ginger) with dark fruits, like figs, rum & raisins, blackberries. Toffee, caramelized nuts and dates.
Medium texture, pretty hot. Arrives bittersweet and floral, with pink grapefruit peels, raspberries, tangerine, and dry honey. Develops to strong oak, drying spices, and leather.
